Excellence in Supply Awards 2015
Blackpool lights up for NHS Suppliers and Procurement teams
On the evening of Thursday 22nd October over 300 guests attended this year’s NHS in the North West Excellence in Supply Awards event to recognise the contribution suppliers and the NHS procurement profession make to supporting patient care and reducing costs.
North West Blood Bikes, Lancs and Lakes were crowned ‘Supplier of the Year’ for their voluntary service which transports blood and other lifesaving products around the region on their fleet of motorbikes. In an emotional acceptance speech Lee Townsend, Area Manager Fylde Coast, receiving the award on behalf of his colleagues praised the unsung heroes of the service who this year alone have made 7,000 trips with lifesaving blood samples, platelets, samples, theatre equipment and other critical items -thereby freeing up £1000’s for NHS trusts to re-invest in front line care. This highlights the key role voluntary and third sector organisations have in the future of the NHS.
Chair of the event organisers - NHS North West Procurement Development and Chief Executive of the North West Coast Academic Health Science Network, Dr Liz Mear said:-
"The awards ceremony was a fantastic event and the achievements highlighted show how, by working together, the NHS and industry can simultaneously achieve both high quality patient care and value for money through procurement. Nominations and attendance at the awards have increased year on year, which highlights the increasing dedication shown by suppliers and NHS procurement professionals in the region to achieving great results for residents, service users and patients”.
